Library Research Requests and Special Services

A big benefit of becoming a Train Collectors Association member—among many more—is gaining access to special perks in our National Toy Train Library. TCA Members enjoy significant discounts on all of our library research services, including professional in-depth research assistance from our staff.

Research Services Available in the NTTL

In-Person or Long-Distance Research Assistance

Your first 30 minutes of research assistance with our professional library staff is always free of charge. Additional time can be purchased for a set fee, which is half-price for TCA members.

Faxes

While we encourage patrons to utilize document scanning as an alternative, we can also offer fax service for certain materials.

Photocopies, Printouts & Document Scans (PDF)

The National Toy Train Library offers limited* copying or scanning of library materials for private study, scholarship, or research. Please note that we cannot copy or scan entire works, including, but not limited to, books, handbooks, catalogs, manuals, or periodicals. We can mail certain physical copies for a set fee.

*The institution reserves the right to refuse a copy order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law or if copying would jeopardize the condition or stability of the item. National Toy Train Library patrons cannot photograph or scan library materials with a personal camera, smartphone, or other electronic device.

Looking to Obtain High-Resolution Images?

While we do not print photo reproductions, we can provide high-quality digital images from our collection, subject to copyright and other relevant rules. Please follow the link to our Form Requests page to order images for either personal or commercial use. Fees apply.

The National Toy Train Research Library is located on the premises of the National Toy Train Museum in Strasburg, PA. The library is open weekdays from 8:30am to 4:30pm. We strongly encourage anyone who is interested in visiting the library to call ahead to make an appointment. We invite all toy train enthusiasts—including kids—to visit and see what we have to offer.
